According to a report from Football Transfers, Manchester City have initiated talks with Inter Milan for the services of Denzel Dumfries. Pep Guardiola’s team are on the lookout for more depth on the right flank, and they consider the Dutch international an ideal fit for their system.
Dumfries made a name for himself at PSV Eindhoven before joining the Italian giants in the summer of 2021. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of the best attacking full-backs in the world.
Last season, the 29-year-old right-back was involved in a total of 45 matches across competitions, and he ended up contributing towards 17 goals (11 goals, 6 assists). He is equally effective as a full-back as well as a wing-back.
While the Dutch international still has three years left on his deal at Inter, he could be on the move this summer because of a bargain release clause in his contract. He could be available for just €25 million, and it has resulted in interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Manchester City are one of the clubs that are interested in him. Pep Guardiola seeks more quality and depth at right-back following the departure of Kyle Walker, who has joined Burnley in a deal worth €6 million (£5m).
The Spanish manager sees Dumfries as the perfect replacement for the English international. Just like Walker, the Dutch full-back is equally effective on both ends of the pitch. Since he is available for a bargain fee, City considers it to be too good an opportunity to pass.
They have already initiated talks with the Italian outfit and are now looking to explore the player’s willingness to make the switch to Manchester. While the bargain exit clause does make life easier, City do not have much time on their hands as it expires on 15 July. They will have to act swiftly to get a deal over the line.
