Arsenal in advanced talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Sporting CP for priority striker target Viktor Gyokeres, as personal terms are in place.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal are moving forward with the signing of Viktor Gyokeres as their main striker target this summer. The Gunners are engaged in advanced talks with Sporting CP over the fee required to sign the Swede, with personal terms on a five-year contract are already in place for the 27-year-old target.

The Arsenal striker saga has rumbled on from an early stage, with fans growing frustrated due to the uncertainty on who the club might sign. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with no clear decision on the main target arriving until now.

Arsenal’s talks for Sesko had slowed down over the last few days owing to Leipzig’s excessive demands to sell the player. Moreover, despite holding extensive talks with the Slovenian’s camp, there have been no inroads made in terms of an agreement on personal terms.

Arsenal were expected to make a decisive effort to land Gyokeres, and on Sunday, David Ornstein, among other credible journalists, reported that the Gunners are now advancing for the Swede. The 27-year-old target seems like the player Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta want, as the latter is reportedly pushing to get a deal done at the earliest.

Personal terms are in place with Gyokeres over a five-year deal, which will last until 2030. The Gunners wanted a prolific presence in front of goal, having struggled in that aspect last season, and the 27-year-old target does have favourable numbers to back himself to be their new starting No.9.

Arsenal close to agreeing Viktor Gyokeres deal

With most things out of the way, the only element left before Gyokleres wears the red and white of Arsenal is the fee with Sporting CP. The Portuguese giants have been demanding around €80 million for the striker, with the Gunners recently suggesting they are willing to pay around €70 million.

Now, with talks advancing, it appears both parties may have come to a compromise on the price, as a deal is likely to be agreed in the coming days. It may be a matter of time before Gyokeres signs for the Giunnes, and helps them in their quest to win major honours.
