According to a report by Football Insider, Johan Bakayoko is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a wide attacker. So, the 22-year-old PSV Eindhoven winger has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
Newcastle United’s top target is Anthony Elanga, but they have already failed with a bid to sign the Swedish international from their fellow Premier League club. So, the PSV Eindhoven winger is a viable alternative, with his contract situation at the Eredivisie giants making him an appealing target for the Tyneside outfit.
Johan Bakayoko has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Eredivisie since breaking into the first-team squad at PSV Eindhoven. A native of Overijse, the 22-year-old winger spent most of his formative years in Belgium but graduated from the youth division at the Dutch club after joining PSV Eindhoven in July 2019.
The Belgian international has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years, although he was hit-and-miss in the 2024/25 campaign. Bakayoko contributed to only 15 goals in 47 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net 12 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United.
Johan Bakayoko has been on Newcastle United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as the Tyneside outfit did not replace Miguel Almiron when the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. So, Newcastle United must sign a new wide attacker in the summer transfer window, with several candidates emerging on the Tyneside club’s wishlist.
Newcastle United’s top target is Anthony Elanga. However, with the Magpies already failing with a bid to sign the Swedish international from their fellow Premier League club, they have kept their options open. So, they may turn to the PSV Eindhoven winger if the move for Elanga does not see the light of day.
Interestingly, Bakayoko will be a cost-effective target, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Eredivisie champions, with talks over a new deal not progressing well. So, it will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old Belgian international becomes a top target for the Tyneside outfit soon.
