Leeds United set to sign Gabriel Gudmundsson deal in €12 million deal

Leeds United will reportedly sign 26-year-old Swedish international Gabriel Gudmundsson in a deal worth €12 million from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille this summer.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Gabriel Gudmundsson is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites have been keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old LOSC Lille defender has been a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.

The Ligue 1 club will sell the Swede to Leeds United in the summer transfer window, with the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners striking an agreement with a bid worth €12 million. LOSC Lille had signed Gudmundsson for €6 million nearly four years ago.

Gabriel Gudmundsson and his Ligue 1 adventure

Gabriel Gudmundsson has established himself as one of the most dependable full-backs in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from FC Groningen in August 2021. The Malmo native spent his formative years in Sweden and graduated from the youth division at Halmstads BK. However, he has risen in prominence during his spell in France.

The 26-year-old full-back has gone from strength to strength at LOSC Lille in the last four years, having been a regular at the back for the Ligue 1 club. Gudmundsson has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Les Dogues while chipping in with four goals and three assists. However, the Swedish international will leave the Ligue 1 club in the summer transfer window, with Leeds United his next destination.

Premier League move beckons

Leeds United’s interest in Gabriel Gudmundsson makes sense. The Whites have been combing the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window after parting ways with Junior Firpo as a free agent. So, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have been keen on signing a long-term replacement.

Several candidates, including Nuno Tavares, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar in recent weeks. However, Gudmundsson will be the West Yorkshire outfit’s new left-back signing, with the newly promoted Premier League club striking an agreement over a deal worth €12 million to sign the Swede.

LOSC Lille forked out €6 million to sign Gudmundsson four years ago, and the Ligue 1 giants have doubled their investment. It will be interesting to see how the 26-year-old Swedish international fares after joining Leeds United in a deal worth €12 million.
