According to a report by TEAMtalk, Joel Willock and Sean Longstaff are the subjects of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad in the summer transfer window by signing midfielders with Premier League experience. So, the Newcastle United duo has emerged on the newly promoted Premier League club’s radar.
However, Leeds United will not be alone in the battle to sign Willock and Longstaff. While the latter is a target for Everton, Crystal Palace will look to sign Willock from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, other midfielders are also on Leeds United’s radar.
Joe Willock has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Newcastle United from Arsenal. While the Englishman enjoyed an exceptional loan spell at St. James’ Park in the second half of the 2020/21 season, they have been in and out of the starting lineup since completing a permanent move. The 25-year-old managed only 1,524 minutes of game time across 41 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, Sean Longstaff has blown hot and cold since breaking into the first-team squad at Newcastle United. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has turned out over 200 times thus far for the Tyneside club while chipping in with 16 goals and 11 assists. However, Longstaff and Willock face an uncertain future at Newcastle United, with Leeds United among their prospective suitors in the summer transfer window.
Leeds United’s interest in Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock makes sense. The Whites are combing the market for midfielders this summer, even though Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev were impressive in the EFL Championship title-winning campaign. So, several candidates, including Anton Stach, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar.
However, Willock and Longstaff are also viable targets for Leeds United. However, the newly promoted Premier League club will face stiff competition from Everton for Longstaff and Crystal Palace for Willock. Everton will aim to sign a midfielder this summer amid Idrissa Gueye’s advancing age. On the other hand, Crystal Palace will seek a midfielder amid Adam Wharton’s uncertain future at Selhurst Park.
Nevertheless, the two Newcastle United midfielders are on Leeds United’s wishlist, and it will be interesting to see if the West Yorkshire outfit can beat Everton and Crystal Palace to the English midfield duo.
