According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Davide Calabria could be heading to the Premier League ahead of next season as Crystal Palace are keen on acquiring his services. The Eagles are looking to add more quality on the right flank, and they see this as a great market opportunity.
Calabria came up the ranks at AC Milan. He got promoted to their first team at the start of 2015 and was an integral part of their setup for almost a decade. The 28-year-old lost his place in the team in the first half of the last season and was sent out on loan to Bologna for the second half.
While he did feature in a total of 13 matches for Vincenzo Italiano’s team and did a decent job, it was not enough to convince Bologna to push for a permanent deal. More importantly, AC Milan also decided against handing him a new deal. As a result, the Italian international is now officially a free agent.
With Davide Calabria available for free, there are multiple top clubs keen on signing the 28-year-old. Celta Vigo, Real Betis and RCD Mallorca are three Spanish clubs that have been linked with Calabria, but it seems the highly-active Crystal Palace are the front-runners for his signature at this stage.
With Nathaniel Clyne in the final phase of his career, the Eagles are looking to add more competition at right-back, and they believe the former AC Milan skipper could be a valuable addition to their squad. Not only would he challenge for a spot in the starting XI, but his experience could also prove crucial.
The South London club are very interested in securing his services, and they have started to make subtle moves to bring him in. They could soon step up their pursuit and make decisive progress. While multiple clubs are keen on securing his signature, Crystal Palace are believed to be ahead of the competition. It seems Calabria is all set to move out of Italy for the first time in his career.
