Crystal Palace set to sign Borna Sosa, schedule medical

Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Croatian international Borna Sosa from Eredivisie club Ajax in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, Borna Sosa is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Ajax left-back has emerged as a target for the South London outfit.

The Eagles have already scheduled a medical for the Croat, who will undergo his checks on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the report has claimed that Crystal Palace and Ajax are on the verge of striking an agreement over a deal for Sosa, with the two clubs coming close on Sunday afternoon, as per De Telegraaf.

Borna Sosa and his Ajax woes

Borna Sosa has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Ajax from VfB Stuttgart in September 2023. The 27-year-old failed to hit the ground running at the Eredivisie club two years ago, and they loaned him to Torino last summer. However, the player managed only 1,231 minutes of game time across 20 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit.

Nevertheless, Sosa’s stock in the market remains high, with several well-known clubs across Europe setting their sights on him for a bargain deal. Crystal Palace will be among the prospective suitors vying for the Croatian international defender’s signature. Meanwhile, Ajax will not stand in the player’s way, having been dismayed by the failure of the move.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Borna Sosa is understandable. The Eagles are preparing for an adventure in Europe in the 2025/26 season, and they must reinforce their first-team squad to sustain the challenge on four fronts. So, several candidates have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Sosa also a viable target.

The 27-year-old Croat will bring experience of playing in several top leagues to the table. Crystal Palace and Ajax have moved closer to striking an agreement over a possible deal for Sosa. Meanwhile, the South London outfit will hope to have him for the medical checks by Tuesday.

It is unclear how quickly Crystal Palace can secure the agreement to complete a permanent move for Sosa in the summer transfer window. However, the Croatian international is closing in on ending his misery at the Eredivisie club.
