Marco Asensio offered to Barcelona, Manchester City

Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered 29-year-old Spanish international Marco Asensio to Barcelona and Manchester City, with the player not in Luis Enrique’s plans at PSG.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City and Barcelona will have the opportunity to sign Marco Asensio in a bargain move in the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain outcast has no future at Parc des Princes, with Luis Enrique looking beyond him heading into the 2025/26 season.

So, Jorge Mendes has started working behind the scenes to find a new destination for Asensio, with the Portuguese super-agent offering his client’s services to Barcelona and Manchester City. However, the two European bigwigs are behind Inter Milan in the battle for the Spaniard’s signature.

Marco Asensio at a crossroads in his career

Marco Asensio has reached another crossroads in his career after becoming a peripheral figure at Paris Saint-Germain. While the 29-year-old attacker was one of the most in-form players in the Premier League during his loan spell with Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 season, he has not completed a permanent move to Villa Park.

The Spanish international revived his stuttering career after striking a formidable offensive partnership with Marcus Rashford. Asensio ended the season by contributing to 15 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net ten times and providing five assists. However, after a permanent move to Aston Villa did not materialise, he will have the chance to join Barcelona or Manchester City.

What next?

Barcelona can do with a player like Marco Asensio. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a versatile attacker after allowing Ansu Fati to join AS Monaco on a season-long loan deal. Interestingly, Asensio’s former Aston Villa teammate Marcus Rashford is a target for Barcelona. However, the former Real Madrid attacker is also an option worth considering for the Blaugrana.

As for Manchester City, Jack Grealish faces an uncertain future at the Etihad. The Citizens are thus combing the market for a versatile attacker this summer, with Asensio an option worth considering. However, the Premier League giants have expressed an interest in signing the PSG outcast this summer.

Instead, Barcelona and Manchester City are behind PSG in the battle for Asensio’s signature, with the Nerazzurri keen on signing the 29-year-old Spaniard in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the PSG outcast.
