Liam Rosenior open to Chelsea move for Mike Maignan

Newly-appointed Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior is reportedly ready to sanction a move for 30-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Mike Maignan is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on bolstering their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper this year, preferably in the summer transfer window. So, the 30-year-old AC Milan shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the West London club.

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup winners were also keen on signing the Frenchman in the summer transfer window before ruling out a deal. The latest report has revealed that Liam Rosenior, the club’s new head coach, has endorsed the idea of securing Maignan’s services.

How has Mike Maignan fared at AC Milan?

Mike Maignan has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers since rising in prominence at LOSC Lille. The 30-year-old became a household name during his spell with Les Dogues, and he has continued bolstering his reputation since joining AC Milan from the Ligue 1 club in July 2021.

The French international has made nearly 200 appearances thus far for AC Milan while keeping 69 clean sheets and conceding 186 goals. However, Maignan’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. The situation has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling?

Chelsea’s continued interest in Mike Maignan makes sense. While Liam Rosenior has several goalkeepers in his squad, Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have been error-prone between the sticks. The latest report has revealed that the Blues are keen on signing a goalkeeper who can be an upgrade on Sanchez.

Maignan has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, with Liam Rosenior on board with the idea of securing the 30-year-old Frenchman’s services in the summer transfer window. With the AC Milan goalkeeper keen on joining the West London club, a summer deal is possible.

While AC Milan will attempt to tie Maignan to a new contract, he may depart from San Siro as a free agent in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the French international joins Chelsea in a Bosman move in the coming months.
