France international right-back Jonathan Clauss (33) has signed a two-year contract extension with OGC Nice, Les Aiglons have announced. The former Lens and Marseille full-back is now tied with the INEOS-owned Ligue 1 side until 2028. Despite Nice’s turbulent first half of the season, Clauss logged 22 appearances in all competitions.
Clauss was however left out of the squad for two games ealier in the campaign amid strong interest from Bayer Leverkusen, who were looking for a replacement for Liverpool-bound Jeremie Frimpong. Then OGC Nice head coach Franck Haise even confirmed that the France international wanted to leave Les Aiglons before the end of the summer transfer window.
The prospective move to Bayer 04 eventually collapsed. But Nice won’t see Clauss leave as a free agent anytime soon considering he has penned a new contract.
