Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham United eyeing bargain move for Oscar Mingueza

Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United are set to resume their battle for the signature of Oscar Mingueza this season.

According to Fichajes, Oscar Mingueza continues to attract big interest from the Premier League as a host of teams are ready to resume their battle for the defender. Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United are among those in the running for the Celta Vigo star nearing the end of his stay with the La Liga side.

Celta Vigo continues to enjoy their status as a La Liga team with the chance to break into one of the European places at the end of the season. One of the big reasons for their consistent rise in stature is the presence of Oscar Mingueza in the side, although the team are now resigned to losing him in the summer.

His contractual situation has been the main subject of speculation over at Celta Vigo. Back in November, Mingueza commented that he would like to stay put beyond the summer, but things might have changed in the background owing to persistent interest from Premier League sides.

Outside of England, Juventus are showing interest, but the main attraction currently is a potential switch to the Premier League in the summer. Mingueza will be a free agent, as the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham are interested in the defender.

Unai Emery has been pushing to get a deal done for some time now, as Villa were expected to make a move in the summer. His versatility across the defensive line has even prompted the idea for the Basque manager to play him in midfield should he come to Birmingham, as Villa could be one of the favourites to land him if he eventually leaves Celtic Vigo.

Oscar Mingueza to the Premier League?

Newcastle United were seen as front-runners during the January window, as they looked at defensive signings following a raft of injuries in their backline. While they never made a move, largely because the 26-year-old La Liga defender may have indicated his will to stay at Celta Vigo for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle United could battle Villa for Mingueza, but as far as West Ham are concerned, they are probably expected to be at the bottom of the list. The Hammers are battling relegation as things stand, and given the reputation of the other interested clubs in the 26-year-old La Liga defender, Mingueza is widely expected to reject the Londoners if he had the choice of other more prestigious clubs.
