Marcus Rashford has certainly revived his career since joining Barcelona on loan last summer. The English international is certainly loving life at the Catalan club, and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Manchester United graduate is hoping to secure a permanent move ahead of next season.
Rashford came up the ranks at Old Trafford and was an integral part of their first team for years. However, he had a rift with Ruben Amorim last season, and his relationship with the club also broke down. The English forward then ended up spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
While he returned to his parent club in the summer, he was not a part of their plans. Eventually, they ended up sanctioning a loan move to Barcelona. The Catalan giants also have an option to make the move permanent for just £26 million.
Since moving to Spain, Rashford has been involved in 34 matches across competitions and has contributed towards 23 goals (10 goals, 13 assists). While he is not a regular starter, he has certainly established himself as a key figure under Hansi Flick.
The German manager is delighted to have him on his bench and would love to have him around beyond this season as well. The club and the player are also on the same page with regard to his future.
While speaking about his future, O’Rourke said, “I think there’s a willingness from both the club and the player to extend their stay at the Camp Nou. He’s enjoyed a productive campaign so far.
“He’s helped Barcelona to the top of La Liga, they’re into the next round of the Champions League, they’ve already won the Super Cup and they’re in the Spanish Cup semi-finals as well.
“There is an option in there as part of that loan deal for Barcelona to make it a permanent £26million.
“Rashford is happy there and Barcelona are obviously very happy with his time at the club as well.
“Joan Laporta is a big admirer of Marcus Rashford and as I said, if he stays in charge, I would fully expect a deal to be ironed out.
“There’s a wish from Rashford himself to stay at Barcelona beyond this loan deal as well.
“So yeah I would think, although there’s maybe a slight obstacle if Laporta is not re-elected, I still think that Barcelona are keen to do this deal.
“More importantly Marcus Rashford is keen to do the deal as well.”
Barcelona’s presidential elections could complicate matters for Rashford. While Joan Laporta is the favourite to be re-elected, the decision won’t be made until mid-March. As a result, the English forward’s remains uncertain.
If Laporta is incharge going forward, there are high chances of the move being made permanent. However, if that doesn’t happen, Rashford might have to look for a new club. The 28-year-old certainly wants to continue at Barcelona, and he is hoping that he ends up securing a permanent move to Camp Nou this summer.
