Liverpool, Manchester City front-runners to sign Samson Baidoo

Liverpool and Manchester City are seen as front-runners in the race for highly rated RC Lens defender Samson Baidoo.

According to Sports Boom, Samson Baidoo is attracting plenty of interest from top teams following an impressive campaign in Ligue 1. The RC Lens star has Liverpool and Manchester City chasing his signature, with a €45–55 million fee being mooted for the centre-back.

RC Lens will want to end the season on a high after briefly leading the Ligue 1 table this season. With teams like Marseille and Monaco unable to mount a considerable challenge at the top, RC Lens are widely expected to finish as runners-up to PSG, although it is still very much in the mix for the title.

As a consequence of their top-notch displays, RC Lens will anticipate plenty of interest from top teams in their players. Some of them are already being linked with moves, and the club may have to sell another star, as defender Samson Baidoo has key suitors circling.

Manchester City and Liverpool are chasing the defender, with RC Lens set to demand at least €45–55 million for the Ligue 1 centre-back. The price may not be an issue for the English sides, although they may gauge the need to add another defender to the mix.

Baidoo had some English teams chasing him before January, but RC Lens were never expected to part ways at that time. However, ahead of the summer, should one of the interested clubs come close to their asking price for the €45–55 million-rated Ligue 1 defender, they might sell.

Samson Baidoo to the Premier League?

Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly the front-runners in the race for Baidoo. However, there are questions over whether they need to make such an investment in their squads. While both teams are open to adding a top-draw defender, the Austrian possibly lacks experience, and both teams already have young defenders in their squads at the moment.

Liverpool recently agreed a deal for Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, and they already signed Giovanni Leoni in the summer, which could negate the need for another young name in that squad. Manchester City have a few notable young defenders in the mix, but they may be more likely to sign someone like Baidoo should they feel the need.
