Barcelona eyeing bargain move for Mohamed Salah

Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah in a bargain deal in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, long-serving Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window.

The Nagrig native has announced that he will leave Liverpool after the 2025/26 season, with the Merseyside club ready to terminate his contract to facilitate a smooth departure. Interestingly, the report suggests that Hansi Flick is the driving force behind Barcelona’s move for the Liverpool veteran.

Mohamed Salah and his legendary Liverpool career

Mohamed Salah has established himself as one of the world’s best players since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in a deal worth €39 million in July 2017. The 33-year-old hit the ground running at Anfield, scoring in his debut appearance for the Merseyside club. Since then, the veteran winger has made exponential progress, winning several individual honours.

Additionally, the 113-cap Egyptian international has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success, helping the Merseyside club win the Premier League (twice), the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup. However, the long-serving Liverpool talisman has not been at his best this term, although he has still scored ten goals and provided nine assists in 34 outings. The latest bombshell came after his recent announcement.

What next?

Mohamed Salah will bring the curtains down on his legendary Liverpool stint after announcing that he will leave the Merseyside club after the 2025/26 season. While widespread reports have suggested that a move to the Saudi Pro League may be on the cards, the latest update has claimed that he is a target for Barcelona.

The 33-year-old has been on Barcelona’s wishlist for a long time. However, the continued interest is perplexing, considering the long-serving Liverpool talisman occupies the same position as Lamine Yamal. So, he will not be a regular starter for Barcelona if he moves to Spotify Camp Nou this summer.

While signing a productive attacker like Salah is an appealing prospect, it makes no sense to sign a player who will not start regularly. So, the credibility of this report is in doubt, and it will be surprising to see the 113-cap Egyptian international joining Barcelona in a bargain deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.
