Uli Hoeness comments on Michael Olise links with Liverpool

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich attacking mainstay Michael Olise.

Liverpool have a long-standing interest in Michael Olise. With Mohamed Salah leaving the club after the end of the season, the Reds would love to bring the French international back to the Premier League to help replace the veteran Egyptian attacker.

Uli Hoeness rules out Michael Olise’s departure

However, the Merseyside club have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit following the comments of Bayern Munich chief, Uli Hoeness. He has shut down the prospect of Olise joining Liverpool this summer.

While speaking to , Hoeness said, “Liverpool have already spent €500million [£432m] this year and are having a very poor season. We won’t contribute to them playing better next year.”

The honorary Bayern Munich president has completely ruled out the possibility of Olise joining the Merseyside club this summer. The reports suggest Liverpool could table a massive offer of around £173 million, but even that won’t change the German giants’ stance on his future.

Hoeness further added, “We play this game for our fans. We have 430,000 members, we have millions of fans worldwide, and it doesn’t help them much if we have €200m [£173m] in the bank, but play worse football every Saturday because of it.”

Olise’s meteoric rise at Bayern Munich

Michael Olise has taken his game to the next level since joining Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old winger has been involved in 94 matches, and he has contributed towards 86 goals. He has established himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in the world, and Liverpool’s interest is quite understandable.

Not just the Merseyside outfit, but quite a few top clubs from across Europe are keen on his signature. He is certainly going to be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming transfer window, but that hardly bothers Bayern Munich.

Liverpool are set to part ways with Salah, who will go down as one of the best ever to play for them; as a result, they are desperate to bring in a world-class replacement. Olise could be the perfect fit, and they are ready to break the bank for him, but he seems to be off-limits.

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, backed Hoeness while talking to SportBild. He said via talkSPORT: “We’re not wasting any thought on that,” he told the German outlet before adding, “He’s an FC Bayern player and has all the opportunities here that top players could wish for.”

With Olise unlikely to be available, Liverpool will have to look at other options. The Premier League champions certainly won’t find it easy to find a player of the French forward’s calibre, but they do have a few names on their wishlist.
