Sunderland face frustration in Thiago Pinar, Victor Munoz chase

Real Madrid will reportedly leave Sunderland frustrated in the summer transfer window, as they will secure the long-term futures of Thiago Pinar and Victor Munoz.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Thiago Pinar and Victor Munoz are the subjects of interest from Sunderland. The Black Cats are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder and a wide attacker this summer. However, they will fail to land the young Spanish duo ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Thiago Pinar is the latest promising prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Fuenlabrada, the Spaniard has spent his formative years thus far in Spain, passing through the academies at Atletico Madrid, Getafe, and CD Leganes before graduating from the youth division at Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old has not taken long to make his mark for Real Madrid’s first team, and he has already amassed nearly 500 minutes of game time in eight appearances for the senior side. On the other hand, Victor Munoz has landed on his feet since joining CA Osasuna from Real Madrid last summer.

The 22-year-old has been solid in the final third, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 31 outings across all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, the Spanish winger’s progress has piqued the attention of well-known clubs, with Pinar also stimulating the interest of many teams, including Sunderland.

Sunderland’s interest in Thiago Pinar and Victor Munoz is understandable. The Black Cats have been one of the surprise packages of the 2025/26 season, and they want to build on the superb campaign by adding more quality to their squad this summer.

While Granit Xhaka has been a top-class addition to the Sunderland midfield, a forward-thinking midfielder alongside him can help Sunderland take the next step in the Premier League. Additionally, a productive winger is a necessity for the Wearside outfit, as they have been dependent on their strikers’ output this season.

However, Sunderland must look elsewhere for a midfielder and a winger, as Real Madrid will not entertain offers for Pinar and will exercise the buyback clause to re-sign Munoz in the coming months. The news follows other updates surrounding other former Real Madrid prospects, with Nico Paz also closing in on returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.
