Liverpool rival Barcelona, Chelsea, Aston Villa in Marcos Senesi race

Liverpool might face stiff competition from Barcelona, Chelsea, and Aston Villa in their pursuit of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.

Marcos Senesi is all set to be on the move this summer, as his contract with Bournemouth comes to an end. With the experienced Argentine centre-back available on a free transfer, a host of top clubs are after his signature.

Liverpool seem quite keen on adding him to their squad, but according to a report from Fichajes, the Reds will have to battle Barcelona, Chelsea and Aston Villa to get their hands on the 28-year-old.

Senesi has been a part of the Bournemouth setup since joining them from Feyenoord back in 2022. The left-footed centre-back has been one of their mainstays over the years. Despite his contract running down, he has featured in 32 matches this term.

The Argentine international is a key figure in the team, and the Cherries would have loved to extend his stay at the club. However, the player has made his intentions quite clear. He is not willing to renew his terms and is on the lookout for his next club.

Thanks to his consistent performances in the Premier League, a number of top clubs in the country are after him. His agents are already in talks with a number of clubs, as they look to find him a club where he can regularly compete in Europe.

Four European clubs are after Senesi’s signature

Liverpool have emerged as one of the most serious suitors. With Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain and Virgil van Dijk in the final phase of his career, the Merseyside club do need to bring in a new centre-back. Arne Slot seeks more competition at the back, and Senesi is a perfect fit for their possession-based style.

Having forked out a fortune on attacking reinforcement last summer, they will be more cautious this time around and signing a defender of Senesi’s quality for free is a deal they do not want to miss out on.

But Liverpool are not the only club that are after him; Chelsea and Aston Villa have been keeping tabs on him. The Blues want to bring in an experienced campaigner who could guide the youngster around him. Meanwhile, Unai Emery wants to further bolster his backline amidst uncertainty around Pau Torres’ future.

Apart from the English clubs, Barcelona are also keen on his signature. They haven’t coped well with Inigo Martinez’s departure and seek more quality at the back. They have already held talks with his camp, but he is seen as a backup option for now.
