According to a report by Africa Foot, AS Monaco goalkeeping sensation Yanis Benchaouch is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper ahead of the 2026/27 season amid uncertainties surrounding Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future.
The latest report has revealed that the Premier League high-flyers have intensified their efforts to sign the French-born shot-stopper by submitting an “official offer” to AS Monaco, including a net annual salary of €850,000 to the teenage goalkeeping prospect. The duration of the contract will be five years, signalling Aston Villa’s intention to install him as the next first-choice custodian.
Yanis Benchaouch is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in the country of his birth. Born in Périgueux, the 19-year-old has spent his formative years thus far in France, passing through the academies at US Chancelade-Marsax, CO Coulounieix-Chamiers, and Trélissac Antonne Périgord FC before graduating from the youth division at AS Monaco.
The teenage prospect has been a regular for AS Monaco’s under-19 side, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding 47 goals in 36 outings thus far. While the Moroccan youth international has yet to make his senior bow for the Ligue 1 club, his stock is high, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Aston Villa’s interest in Yanis Benchaouch is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a goalkeeper, as Emiliano Martinez faces an uncertain future at the West Midlands club. Recent reports have suggested that the veteran Argentine goalkeeper is ready to call time on his stint with Aston Villa amid his links with Serie A bigwigs.
So, the West Midlands outfit must dip into the market for a young and promising goalkeeper who can be a long-term solution between the sticks. Several candidates have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s wishlist, with Benchaouch also a viable target.
While the 19-year-old Moroccan youth international may not be ready to become Aston Villa’s first-choice goalkeeper immediately, he can learn the ropes from Marco Bizot before taking over from the Dutchman. However, the promising shot-stopper has all the makings to become a long-term solution for the high-flying Premier League club.
