Andy Robertson reveals why he is leaving Liverpool

Andy Robertson has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

His contract expires in the summer, and he has decided to take on a new challenge.

The player has revealed that he did not turn down the opportunity to extend his contract with the Premier League club. Speaking to the media, the Scottish international defender revealed that Liverpool never really offered him an extension.

Andy Robertson explains why he is leaving

Robertson said to : “It means I don’t need to lie to everyone (about my future) so it’s a weight off my shoulders,” Robertson said.

“It’s not like I’ve knocked back a contract or anything; there was no contract on the table. It was a conversation we all had. It was a conversation of ‘okay, this is what I want to do, I want to play, and I believe I’ve still got the ability to play’. I think I have showed that this season.”

The defender has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool in recent months. He was linked with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the season and during the January transfer window. However, he decided to continue with Liverpool until the end of the season.

“Last summer, it was kind of close, and I decided to stay. It was the same in January,” Robertson added.

“I will be looking to sort my future out sooner rather than later. I don’t want to be going to the World Cup with anything hanging over my head. But as of yet, there’s nothing. We’ll see where the future lies for me and my family.”

Spurs expected to sign Robertson

There have been rumours that Tottenham have a verbal agreement with the player, and that he will join them if they can survive relegation. It will be interesting to see if he ends up at the London club. There is no doubt that he is a quality player, and he has shown that over the years at Liverpool. Robertson has also been linked with Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have already replaced him with Milos Kerkez, but they will need to add more depth in that area of the pitch in the summer. They cannot expect the Hungarian International to play every game next season. They should look to add experience and quality to the left-back department.

As for Robertson, he is certainly one of the best left-backs in Premier League history, and he would be an excellent addition for most teams. The 32-year-old is not just a reliable defender; he is excellent going forward as well. He has 60 assists in the Premier League, the second most by any defender.
