Lucas Chevalier’s World Cup hopes in tatters after injury blow

PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (24) has sustained a right thigh injury this Wednesday in training, as confirmed by Les Parisiens. The France international will be sidelined for several weeks, according to PSG’s latest press release. Le Parisien understands that Arsenal expect Chevalier to be out of action for the next three weeks.

Chevalier’s chances of making Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad were already low, considering the former Lille OSC man has not played for PSG since January 23 with Matvey Safonov now the undisputed starter between the sticks for Luis Enrique.

Now, with his season all but over, his hopes of representing France next summer are in serious jeopardy. France manager Didier Deschamps will announce Les Bleus‘ squad for the World Cup on Thursday, May 14.

At this moment in time, Chevalier would remain sidelined. Chevalier’s injury could open the door for a sensational return for Hugo Lloris. France’s most capped player is reportedly open to the idea of coming out of retirement to act as France’s third-choice goalkeeper, which is Chevalier’s current role.
