Carles Martínez Novell has already taken charge of his last game as Toulouse FC manager. The Spaniard, who guided the club to another midtable finish, confirmed his exit earlier this month. He is now being strongly linked with a move back to his native Spain.
Toulouse, meanwhile, are on the hunt for a replacement. Olivier Pantaloni, who has already confirmed his exit from FC Lorient, emerged as an early frontrunner, but L’Équipe now understands that talks are now underway with another candidate, Motherwell’s Jens Berthel Askou.
Askou, in his first season in Scottish football, led Motherwell to a fourth-place finish in the league. His results with the club had also attracted interest from eventual champions Celtic. L’Équipe understands that talks with Berthel Askou are underway and the Danishman has now emerged as the priority target for Le TéFéCé.
Olivier Cloarec, the president of Toulouse, said earlier this week that he wished to name Martínez Novell’s successor before the opening of the summer transfer window.
