According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Jamie Gittens could open a battle between London giants Arsenal and Chelsea, with the former seen as the front-runner for the winger. The English attacker reportedly wants to quit Borussia Dortmund in the summer to make a return to his homeland.
Borussia Dortmund have yet again shown their mettle in developing another top English talent in Jamie Gittens. In the recent past, they managed to bring up the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham to sell them for huge fees, and they might do the same with the 20-year-old attacking prodigy.
Gittens reportedly wants to quit Borussia Dortmund in the summer over a return to England, where Chelsea and Arsenal are ready to battle for his signature. The Blues had been in contact with the winger over a move, and for all this while they were considered the front runners, with Gittens set to cost at least €50-60 million.
Reports have stated Chelsea were open to offering a multitude of options to Dortmund to seal the move for Gittens. They are reportedly open to sending Sancho in exchange for Gittens, as it could be a tempting prospect for Dortmund to consider given they hold an interest in their former player.
The feeling from the player’s camps is that he would find it easier to achieve regular minutes at Arsenal rather than Chelsea. Hence he prefers a switch to north London which puts the Gunners are front runners in the race and ahead of their London rivals.
Arsenal are prepared to make some notable attacking signings in the summer including a new striker and a left-winger. There are big links to Nico Williams, who has an achievable release clause in his deal at Athletic Club, although his wages are thought to be a big source of concern for the Gunners.
Hence, the recent links to Gittens make sense, as they would be getting a solid and emerging left winger. There were some concerns about his form this season with Dortmund, but his upside for the future will trump everything else as Arsenal are thought to be seriously considering a move for the winger.
