According to a report from TBR, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have already initiated a move to sign Jamie Gittens. They have held talks with the Borussia Dortmund sensation’s representatives regarding a potential transfer this summer. While the Gunners are already on the move, Chelsea are also keen on his signature.
Gittens was a part of the Manchester City youth setup before he made the switch to Dortmund in the summer of 2020. He slowly went up the ranks and got promoted to their first team. Of late, the 20-year-old has been a key figure in their team.
He has been involved in a total of 46 matches this season and has contributed towards 17 goals (12 goals, 5 assists). His performances haven’t gone unnoticed. While his contract there runs until the summer of 2028, there are high chances of him making a move away as multiple top clubs are pushing for his signature.
Arsenal have emerged as a potential destination for the English youth international. The North London club are looking for an upgrade on the left flank. While Gabriel Martinelli has been doing a decent job, Andrea Berta feels they need more quality and depth in that position.
He is looking for a right-footed winger who can help them in the short as well as the long run and Gittens has emerged as an option. The 20-year-old could certainly be an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s team as well as their project.
They have already held talks with his representatives as they look to sign him. But the report suggests those talks are not yet at an advanced stage. The Gunners are also looking at other options, as a result, it will be interesting to see if they do intensify their pursuit of his signature.
While clubs from Italy and Spain are keen on signing Gittens, he prefers moving back to England, which could help their cause. However, they might face competition from rivals Chelsea. The Blues had him on their books as a youngster and they are now interested in re-signing him.
His representatives are in talks with the London club and he certainly fits their transfer policy that focuses on signing the best young stars from across Europe.
