Ruben Amorim wants Manchester United to keep Diogo Dalot this summer

Portuguese international Diogo Dalot is reportedly regarded as untouchable by Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Ruben Amorim considers Diogo Dalot as an essential part of his plans moving ahead and has no intentions of parting ways with the Portuguese full-back. He is one of three players that the former Sporting CP manager considers untouchable heading into the summer.

Dalot made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks at FC Porto. His sensational rise put him on the radar of Manchester United, who signed him in the summer of 2018 for £19 million. While the Portuguese international was a part of their first team since the start, he has had to work very hard to have a prominent role in the team.

The 26-year-old has been a key player in their first team in recent seasons. He has been involved in a total of 51 matches this season while contributing towards eight goals. While Diogo Dalot prefers playing on the right flank, he has done a great job on the opposite flank as well.

Amorim has no intentions of parting ways with Dalot

While reports earlier suggested that Ruben Amorim was keen on bringing in a new right-back this summer, the Portuguese manager has dropped that idea as he is quite impressed with Diogo Dalot’s output in recent months. He feels the FC Porto graduate has everything that the Manchester United manager wants in his right wing-back.

The former Sporting CP manager has informed people at Old Trafford that he considers the 26-year-old as an untouchable in his squad alongside Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo. Amorim wishes to build the new project around these three stars.

Amorim wants his wing-backs to be ultra-attacking in nature and also have a high work rate off the ball. Diogo Dalot has done wonders for Manchester United in that role, and Amorim feels the Portuguese international could do wonders for them going forward.

As a result, Amorim has now shifted his attention towards signing a new left wing-back despite having added Patrick Dorgu to his squad in January. While the Manchester United manager also has Luke Shaw in his team, he could use the English full-back as a left-sided centre-back in a back three. The incoming full-back will then compete with Dorgu for a place in the starting XI.
