Arsenal ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for Jonathan David

Arsenal are leading the race for the signature of LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David amidst interest from rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.

According to InterLive via CaughtOffside, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all keen on signing Jonathan David this summer. While all three clubs have been working hard on a potential transfer, the Gunners are believed to be the front-runners for his signature.

David hasn’t looked back since joining Lille in the summer of 2020 from KAA Gent. He has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team and has been a consistent performer for them. The Canadian striker has had another impressive season for the Ligue 1 outfit.

He has featured in a total of 48 matches across competitions and has contributed towards 37 goals (25 goals, 12 assists). While he has been doing wonders at Lille, his time at the club is about to come to an end. His contract runs out at the end of the season and the player has already made it clear that he won’t be penning an extension.

Premier League giants want David

He is ready to join a bigger club and with him set to be available for free, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested in adding him to their squad. The Reds need a reliable goalscorer in the final third. With Darwin Nunez expected to be on the move and Diogo Jota struggling with persistent injury problems, Arne Slot is pushing for a world-class forward.

David has already proven himself in Ligue 1 and his goal-scoring record suggests he could be a great addition to their squad. Given that he is available for free, it could prove to be a masterstroke. Meanwhile, Chelsea are also in the market for a new forward.

While Nicolas Jackson has done a decent job, Enzo Maresca seeks an upgrade in that position. He wants someone who can compete with him for a place in the XI. Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on his situation for a while now but they are behind Arsenal in the race,

Arsenal to win the race for David?

The Gunners are at the forefront and they have been working on a potential transfer for some time. Mikel Arteta is in desperate need of bringing in a world-class number nine as his team has struggled to score goals at times. He no longer intends to rely on Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

David could certainly prove to be a massive upgrade on the duo. He could help them finally end their wait for the Premier League title. Meanwhile, a move to the North London club will hand the Canadian international an opportunity to fight for major titles. With Arsenal currently leading the race, it will be interesting to see if they do actually win it in the summer.
