According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal are looking to add more firepower to their squad ahead of next season, with Leroy Sane emerging as a key target. The Gunners have received a significant boost in their pursuit, as the player has changed agents just months before a crucial transfer window in his career.
Sane had already made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks and playing for the first team of FC Schalke 04. His sensational rise resulted in a move to Manchester City in 2016. He had a four-year-long successful spell at the club before joining Bayern Munich in 2020 in a deal that was worth £54 million (after add-ons).
The 29-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the last five years and of late, he has been a standout performer for both club and country. The German international might not have been a regular starter for Bayern this season but he still has 13 goals and six assists in just over 2,300 minutes across his 44 appearances.
While Sane remains a key figure in the team and they would love to have him for a few more years, his future has been a massive talking point in recent months. His current deal runs out at the end of the season and he could choose to leave for free.
Bayern have been working on a potential renewal for some time but all their efforts have gone in vain so far. Sane has turned down all their offers and amidst interest from Arsenal, he could be interested in a potential return to England.
Mikel Arteta did work with him during his time at City as an understudy of Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager is well aware of the talent the 29-year-old possesses and he wants him in his squad. The North London club seeks more quality on the flanks and Sane could help them take that next step.
He has a lot of experience and his ability to deliver in crunch moments could certainly help. While he prefers playing out wide on the right, he can feature on the left as well as the centre. As a result, he could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad.
With him set to be available for free, the Gunners certainly do not want to miss the opportunity. While reports so far have suggested that Sane is close to penning a renewal, Arsenal have received a boost as the German has switched agents ahead of the transfer window.
