According to Football Insider, Arsenal are considering abandoning their pursuit of Rodrygo Goes owing to an £85 million price tag on the winger. The Gunners are in the market for a top-draw wide attacker but may have to balance their budget, considering their priority is a centre-forward above everything else.
Rodrygo Goes has managed yet another productive season at Real Madrid despite his stature being overshadowed by some of the other more glamourous attackers like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. For many years now he has been played on the right wing, even though he tends to like operating from the left.
Big stories are coming out of Spain that he could leave Real Madrid in the summer amid rumours stating he even refused to play in the most recent El Clasico against Barcelona. The Spanish giants are open to the idea of letting him leave and while they are aware of the big interest from Premier League sides, Florentino Perez has slapped an £85 million price tag on the 24-year-old productive Real Madrid star.
Arsenal are one of those interested, as the North Londoners are in the market to upgrade their attacking options in many ways. A left-winger is certainly on Mikel Arteta’s agenda for the summer, but their priority target is a centre-forward who guarantees them goals, as they have already moved on from the expensive Alexander Isak and onto his compatriot Viktor Gyokeres.
Rodrygo’s £85 million price tag may prove prohibitive for Arsenal to pursue the deal anymore, as such an outlay would vastly affect their move for a striker. The 24-year-old productive Real Madrid star is certainly a big market opportunity for them as well as other rivals, and while they are only thinking about abandoning the chase, things could still chase in that regard.
Rodrygo could be a big signing for the Gunners if they are open to paying close to what Real Madrid want for the attacker. On the price point, they are seemingly open to paying big for a top-draw left winger, as Rafael Leao is one of those linked with a move.
There are other cost-effective alternatives compared to Rodrygo, as the Gunners also have an interest in Jamie Gittens as well as Nico Williams. They also have an interest in Antoine Semenyo, although all of those names will have competition in place, as Arsenal and director Andrea Berta must decide on a definitive target ahead of the summer.
