According to Football Insider, Tottenham are prepared to open preliminary talks for Eberechi Eze, as they are aiming to beat the likes of Manchester City for the playmaker. The Crystal Palace star has a release clause worth £68 million, although his contractual situation could force a cut-price sale in the summer.
Eberechi Eze has made himself big and visible over the last few weeks owing to some stellar performances for Crystal Palace. The playmaker has helped the Eagles into the FA Cup Final against Manchester City, and last weekend he scored a brace against Tottenham to build momentum ahead of the big game at Wembley.
Incidentally, both Tottenham and Manchester City are keen on Eze, who has a huge chance to leave Crystal Palace in the summer. The playmaker has a £68 million release clause in his contract, although, with a year left in his existing deal, the Eagles could be forced to sell at a lower price.
Manchester City are looking at Eze as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, with the latter set to leave in the summer. The club are willing to make a contract offer soon after the FA Cup Final, as they will take their shot at landing the £68 million-rated PL playmaker.
Tottenham are also in the mix, with the north Londoners interested since last summer when they were widely expected to sign him from Palace. Things did not go as planned, although there are many ties between the club with the player and his family, which could suggest Spurs are in a stronger position for Eze.
The summer window still has some time to open, as Tottenham are ready to open preliminary talks with Palace and Eze’s representatives over a move. The idea could gather steam if Spurs go on to win the Europa League later this month, which will let them play Champions League football next season. Neither Tottenham or others are expected to pay as much as his release clause, which could see them lodge a lower bid.
Apart from Manchester City, there are some other notable clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal keeping constant tabs on Eze. Tottenham could also use the ‘London card’ to lure the £68 million-rated PL playmaker away from the radars of Manchester City and the likes, as there’s a potential for the Crystal Palace star to stay put in the city rather than move up north.
