According to Marca, Aston Villa are the latest to enter the race for Cristhian Mosquera ahead of the summer window. The 20-year-old La Liga defensive prodigy has emerged as one of the promising centre-backs in Spain, with Unai Emery and Monchi eager to explore a move for the Valencia star.
Aston Villa are set to enter a tricky summer window, where they will have to make some key decisions much like last year. The Birmingham-based club are under some financial pressure, which does restrict the prospect of spending money with ease, meaning, they must manouvre certain hurdles with care.
As for their squad requirements, Unai Emery is certainly angling for a new defender and has taken little time to look at the Spanish markets. Monchi has already set sights on Eric Garcia, who represents a good option given the versatility of playing multiple positions.
There appears to be another name on their list, as Aston Villa are now interested in Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera. The 20-year-old La Liga defensive prodigy has been sensational for the Spanish side this season, with the campaign considered a breakthrough one for the young centre-back.
Aston Villa do need to add to their central defence with some of their current players not performing at times to the required levels. The report states that Aston Villa could launch an €18 million bid for Mosquera, which given his current contractual situation, Valencia could potentially sell.
Aston Villa might end up proposing the idea of being an important player in their side to Mosquera, but yet there are no guarantees for him to play every week. Hence, the big issue for Emery’s side is the level of competition for Mosquera, as Chelsea are one of those keen, as the Blues are eager to bring in a defender into their young squad and probably someone who could be a starter for a long time to come.
Arsenal are also interested in Mosquera and are reportedly willing to offer similar terms as Villa. Mikel Arteta has a formidable defensive setup once everyone is fit, although the Spanish manager wants to bring an additional centre-back as cover for William Saliba, and may have identified the 20-year-old La Liga defensive prodigy as one of those who could do the job.
