Newcastle United ready to sell Sean Longstaff for £12 million

Newcastle United will demand around £12 million to part ways with 27-year-old English midfielder Sean Longstaff this summer amid his links with Everton and Manchester United.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Everton and Manchester United are interested in signing Sean Longstaff in the summer transfer window. The Newcastle United midfielder faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park after entering the final 15 months of his contract. Meanwhile, the Tyneside outfit will demand around £12 million to part ways with the Englishman.

Sean Longstaff and his career so far

Sean Longstaff has been a dependable performer since breaking into the first-team squad at Newcastle United. The Englishman spent most of his formative years with the Tyneside outfit after joining the Premier League club as a six-year-old in 2003.

The 27-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Newcastle United at the onset of the 2018/19 season. Since then, Longstaff has come leaps and bounds, although he has struggled for regular game time, as Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Joelinton are ahead of him in the pecking order.

The English midfielder has turned out over 200 times thus far for Newcastle United while chipping in with 16 goals and 11 assists. However, Longstaff faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park after entering the final 15 months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known Premier League clubs, including Everton and Manchester United.

A man in demand

Everton’s interest in Sean Longstaff is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye. So, the Newcastle United homegrown player has emerged as a viable target for Everton.

As for Manchester United, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The latter will leave the Premier League club as a free agent after the 2024/25 season ends. So, Longstaff is an option worth considering for Manchester United. Meanwhile, Newcastle United will not charge a bomb to part ways with the 27-year-old Englishman.

The Magpies want around £12 million to sell Longstaff in the summer transfer window. The price tag should not bother Everton or Manchester United. However, the two Premier League clubs face stiff competition from EFL Championship champions Leeds United for the English midfielder’s signature.
