Crystal Palace enter Jamie Vardy chase, establish contact

Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 38-year-old Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Jamie Vardy is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Leicester City captain. They have contacted the veteran English centre-forward’s representatives as they target a Bosman move.

Jamie Vardy: An unlikely success story

Jamie Vardy has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since enjoying his breakthrough at Leicester City in the 2014/15 season. The Englishman has enjoyed an unprecedented fairytale story, going from being a non-league player to winning the Premier League title with the Foxes.

The 38-year-old has been a talismanic figure for Leicester City for over a decade, and he has ended the 2024/25 season as the club’s top scorer despite enduring a forgettable campaign that has culminated in relegation from the Premier League. Nevertheless, Vardy’s legacy is indubitable after winning the title with Leicester City and lifting the Golden Boot in the 2019/20 season.

Vardy has contributed to 14 goals thus far in the 2024/25 season, finding the back of the net ten times and providing four assists. However, the veteran English striker’s glorious stint with Leicester City will end this summer, as he will depart from the King Power Stadium as a free agent. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Crystal Palace among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Jamie Vardy is understandable. While Jean-Philippe Mateta has been a top-class performer for the South London club, Eddie Nketiah has blown hot and cold thus far in the 2024/25 season. So, with Crystal Palace preparing for a UEFA Europa League campaign, Oliver Glasner needs a more stocked-up squad.

Vardy has thus emerged as a viable target for Crystal Palace, with the South London outfit contacting the 38-year-old Englishman’s entourage. So, a Bosman move to Selhurst Park may be on the cards for the departing Leicester City captain.

However, Crystal Palace will face stiff competition for Vardy’s signature, with Wolverhampton Wanderers also keen on signing him. In addition, recent reports have linked the English striker with Everton and Leeds United. However, Crystal Palace will hope the prospect of playing in the Europa League can turn Vardy’s head.
