According to a report from Ilmessaggero, Aston Villa and Liverpool are both looking to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Nicolo Rovella, who has been doing wonders for Lazio.
While things didn’t work out for Rovella at Juventus, the move to Lazio has done wonders for him. He joined them on a two-year-long loan deal in the summer of 2023.
The 23-year-old didn’t really have the best debut campaign as he missed a handful of games because of injury and could only rack up just over 1,600 minutes of first-team action. However, the young defensive midfielder has had a much better second season.
He has been involved in a total of 43 matches and has been on the pitch for over 3,300 minutes. He has established himself as a key figure in the team and Lazio are now more than willing to secure his services on a permanent basis.
They negotiated a buy obligation with conditions when they signed him from Juventus back in 2023. Given his performances, they would be delighted to have him at the club going forward.
While he is a very important part of their plans, Lazio could even look to cash in on him straightaway as there is a lot of interest in the 23-year-old. The Italian club are all set to undergo massive changes in the summer and they might have to part ways with quite a few of their stars to ensure they have enough funds to work with.
Rovella is one of the names attracting much interest from the Premier League in particular. Aston Villa and Liverpool are two clubs that are keen on signing him.
Unai Emery is looking for more depth and quality in the centre of the park and he feels Rovella could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long-run. Meanwhile, the Reds are looking for a new number six as they want someone who can compete with Ryan Gravenberch for a place in the XI.
While the Dutch midfielder has done well in that role, Slot is keen on having someone who is naturally a defensive midfielder and Rovella is an interesting option for them. Lazio would certainly love to make a profit on the 23-year-old if a significant offer comes their way but it seems the player isn’t so keen on leaving.
He is loving life at Lazio having found some form this season and wants to continue playing for them. But with Premier League giants pushing things could change quickly.
