Everton have discussions with Liam Delap

Everton have held talks with Liam Depal to present their project to the striker, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea considered front runners.

According to The Guardian, Everton have held talks to persuade Liam Delap over a move, as David Moyes’ comments state the Toffees are behind other clubs in the race. The Ipswich Town striker is expected to join another Premier League side after suffering relegation this season, with Manchester United and Chelsea seen as some of the stronger suitors for the striker.

Liam Delap will probably play his last game for Ipswich Town, in what has been a terrible season for the team, but personally, he has done well in the Premier League. The strike managed to score 12 times for Kieran McKenna’s side, as he now angles a move to another Premier League side to stay put in the top flight.

The striker has a £30 million release clause in his contract, as a host of clubs are planning on triggering the clause to sign Delap. Manchester United are ready to cash in on one of their strikers to sign Delap, as they are seen as one of the favourites in the race.

Chelsea are also interested in Delap, as they are eager to land a new centre-forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson. Those two clubs, coupled with the likes of Newcastle United, who have also held talks with Delap are seemingly in front of Everton in the race, as manager David Moyes’ comments suggest.

Everton are interested in Delap, and as the report states, they have had the chance to speak to the striker to present their project. Moyes’ comments on the situation certainly point that the Toffees are very much behind their rivals in the race for the £30m-rated striker ahead of the summer.

Moyes said, “We have had a chance to speak to him. He’s spoken to three or four clubs and he’s given us the opportunity to pitch our case. We’re probably a little bit behind the black ball but you never know what happens.”

Everton need a new striker

Everton are aiming to sign a new striker, and in Depal’s case, they might have presented him an opportunity to take up a starting role in the team. In the background, there are some problems in the No.9 role, although they are hoping to agree a new deal with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and persuade him to stay put as he nears the end of his current contract.

Even if that happens, Everton would still need to refresh the No.9 position to an extent, as they cannot enter a new season with Beto as their main striker. Even Calvert-Lewin has not shown top form when fit, which might be the reason why Everton are probably holding a soft stance on the striker’s renewal and aiming to sign someone like Delap.
