Brentford eyeing Caoimhin Kelleher swoop this summer

Brentford will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Caoimhin Kelleher is the subject of interest from Brentford. The Bees are keen on bolstering their goalkeeping options in the summer transfer window. So, the Liverpool stopper has emerged as a target for the West London club.

Liverpool will demand around £30 million to part ways with the Irishman in the summer transfer window. Brentford may accept the Merseyside club’s valuation when they launch the offensive to sign the Irishman in the summer transfer window. However, the West London club will assess all options before landing a goalkeeper, with James Trafford also a target.

Caoimhin Kelleher and his career thus far

Caoimhin Kelleher has had to bide his time since breaking into the first-team squad at Liverpool FC over half a dozen years ago. The Cork native has been with the Merseyside outfit since July 2015, and he has come leaps and bounds in the last decade. However, the 26-year-old has spent his time with the senior setup being Alisson Becker’s deputy.

Nevertheless, the Republic of Ireland international has made his mark in his limited opportunities, keeping 24 clean sheets in 67 appearances thus far for Liverpool. Kelleher has also played his part in Liverpool’s triumphant campaigns in cup competitions. However, the player will likely depart from Anfield in the summer transfer window, as he wants to embark on a new adventure.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Caoimhin Kelleher has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with several Premier League clubs, including Brentford, setting their sights on him. The West London club’s interest in the Liverpool goalkeeper is understandable despite Mark Flekken’s impressive performances between the sticks this season.

The Dutch goalkeeper is on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Flekken is a target for Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Brentford in a spot of bother. So, Kelleher has emerged as a viable target for the Bees as they look to reinforce their position in the top half of the Premier League. Meanwhile, Liverpool will demand around £30 million to part ways with the 26-year-old Irishman.

Brentford should have no qualms about coughing up £30 million to sign Kelleher. However, the Bees have other options on their wishlist, with James Trafford also on their radar. So, it will be interesting to see if the Republic of Ireland leaves Liverpool for a spell in West London in the summer transfer window.
