Real Madrid plot Florian Wirtz hijack

Real Madrid could consider plotting a late move for Florian Wirtz and hijack the deal from under Liverpool’s noses.

According to AS, Real Madrid could plot a late move for Florian Wirtz to steal the player from under Liverpool snoozes. The Merseysiders are the current favourites to land the Bayer Leverkusen star, although the Spanish giants plan on using Xabi Alonso to lure the 22-year-old attacker.

A few weeks ago, the Florian Wirtz case was expected to be a long drawn out saga, but Liverpool have jumped ahead of the queue in recent times. The Merseysiders have gotten ahead of the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City, with the latter abandoning the chase citing finances as the main reason.

Manchester City’s reason stated that the deal was expected to cost around €300 million taking everything into account. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have also conceded defeat in the race as they believe Wirtz is leaning towards joining Liverpool.

It appears that a conversation with Arne Slot helped convince Wirtz to pick Liverpool as his next destination. The deal will certainly cost a hefty fee, as Bayer Leverkusen had mentioned figures close to €150 million in the recent past.

Liverpool are eager to get the deal wrapped up at the earliest to avoid any sort of complications ahead. Those might come in the form of Real Madrid, as former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso could play a crucial role should the Spanish giants decide to enter the race in a big way.

Real Madrid to enter Florian Wirtz’s race?

As per the report, Liverpool are the current favourites to sign Wirtz, although the deal has not been finalised yet. Hence, they state that Real Madrid have not thrown in the towel in this race as they could potentially hijack the deal from under Liverpool’s noses if they can convince the player to sign.

Real Madrid plans to use Alonso as a catalyst in luring the 22-year-old attacker to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer. It remains to be seen whether they are seriously pondering an entry into the race, as for now, Liverpool are the favourites to sign the Leverkusen star.
