According to Mundo Deportivo via Sports Witness, John Garcia will meet with his agent this week to figure out the next steps in his future. The Espanyol goalkeeper is a big target for many top clubs including Barcelona, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United.
Joan Garcia concluded the season with a heroic performance for Espanyol that kept the La Liga strugglers in the top flight. The highly rated stopper has been the subject of big interest with his team demanding interested suitors pay his release clause
Arsenal were very close to signing him last summer following the departure of Aaron Ramsdale, the two clubs could not agree on the fee. The Gunners are still very much interested in Garcia as Mikel Arteta once the club makes an early investment to secure the future of the goalkeeping position. Garcia has offers from Arsenal as well as Aston Villa as he could be moving to the Premier League.
Aston Villa are hopeful of signing Garcia this summer as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine World Cup winner is moving out of the club to take on a new challenge in his career, as the Midlands side are eager to lure in the Spaniard as their new No.1.
Arsenal with thought to be leading the race for a long time but now things might have changed in the background as Garcia sees himself as a starting goalkeeper at a top club. David Raya, fresh from winning consecutive Golden Glove awards at the Gunners is expected to start the new season as their number one. Hence, any move for Garcia will only happen if the club gives the keeper guarantees of a starting spot.
Garcia also has the interest of Newcastle United and Barcelona. Some report such stated that he may not join the Catalans out of respect for his current club, yet the story goes on to rubbish those suggestions as there is every possibility he could join Barcelona. The Magpies are looking for an additional keeper although they may not be able to provide Garcia the guarantees that he seeks.
Barcelona have also inched closer to agreeing a new deal with Wojciech Szczesny which could see them potentially closing the door on Garcia. The Espanyol keeper is now said to meet with his agent to figure out his future amid all the interest that he is garnering from elsewhere.
The report also goes on to state that Garcia would not like to join a club where he would be loaned out or start as a backup keeper. He is clear with his ideas that his new club will have to offer him the number one position which could potentially rule Arsenal out of the equation.
