According to Cope, Martin Zubimendi could still make a U-turn on his decision to join Arsenal if Real Madrid come calling. The report speculates that the midfielder has not yet decided his next destination, as the story spins on something that may potentially happen with regards to the Real Madrid interest, which leans towards speculation.
Back in January when Arsenal were expected to sign a new striker the news of a potential summer move for Martin Zubimendi emerged. At the time things may not have made sense, but with the summer window approaching and Arsenal losing Jorginho, the Spaniard could be seen as a potential replacement for the Italian midfielder.
While Fabrizio Romano gave the ‘Here We Go’ on an agreement between the player and Arsenal, the previous links to Real Madrid were turned redundant at that stage. Reports were stating the Spanish giants were looking at the 26-year-old midfield as a potential replacement for Luka Modric, who had been expected to leave the club ahead of the summer.
Now that Modric has officially called it quits and the fact that Xabi Alonso is set to take over at the club as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, the report has opened further speculation linking Zubimendi. The story states that while Arsenal are the 26-year-old midfielder’s expected destination, he might still favour a move to Real Madrid should they come calling.
The report fails to provide any concrete logic in suggesting that Zubimendi is yet undecided over his future, despite credible outlets suggesting Arsenal have a deal in place. Real Madrid certainly will look for a Modric replacement, although they may not chase Zubimendi, despite the story stating otherwise.
Arsenal never worried about Real Madrid’s interest in Zubimendi even before Romano’s ‘Here We Go’ arrived. New director Berta had played a crucial role in bringing the midfielder, who is seen as a perfect addition for Berta.
Speculatively, Arsenal would not agree to sign a player who does not want to join them and is in two minds about his future. As for Zubimendi, he has an agreement in place with the Gunners, as he’s expected to make a move to North London as soon as Real Sociedad and Arsenal agree on the terms of his release clause.
