According to Il Messaggero via L’Interista, Chelsea have submitted a €35 million offer to sign Mario Gila this summer, but Lazio have turned it down. The Serie A side are demanding €50 million, as Real Madrid hold a significant percentage of any future resale.
Gila was a part of the Real Madrid youth setup back in the day. While he even made two first-team appearances for them, he left Los Blancos in the summer of 2022 in search of a more prominent role elsewhere.
The 24-year-old ended up joining Lazio and the decision has certainly done wonders for him. He has gone from strength to strength and has been a key figure in the team since the start.
The Spanish centre-back has featured in a total of 43 matches for them and has even contributed towards two goals. While he is one of their mainstays and still has two years left on his deal, his future at the club looks uncertain.
Lazio not only failed to qualify for the Europa League, they won’t be featuring in any European competition next season. It is a massive blow for them and they could be forced to part ways with quite a few of their stars to keep their finances in check. A few of their players could even leave for a more prominent destination where they can have access to bigger competitions.
Mario Gila is one of the players who has been linked with a move away from the club and Lazio could look to cash in on him as he could provide a significant financial boost. While Inter Milan are keen on his signature, Chelsea are also pushing to sign the 24-year-old.
The Blues seek more quality and depth in the heart of the defence. Gila is an ideal fit for their project and he could have a starting role in the team under Enzo Maresca. They have already made a €35 million offer to prise him away but that wasn’t good enough.
Lazio want €50 million for the Spanish centre-back as Real Madrid holds 50% of his future resale. As a result, they want to ensure they get a significant chunk from his sale. If they do get around €50 million, they will only pocked €25 million with the other half going to his former club.
