Manchester United step up efforts to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are reportedly ready to step up the Viktor Gyokeres chase as the club continues to search for a viable striker.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to ramp up the chase of Viktor Gyokeres and make an attempt to make the Sweede their new striker. The Red Devils are in the process of revamping their attack, as the addition of a 26-year-old dream target could make them a strong attacking force next season.

Manchester United’s financial position remains unclear despite the promise of landing some formidable and expensive targets in the summer. Their failure to win the Europa League final ensured they will play no European football next season which does have big financial implications attached to it.

Yet, the club are showing immense prowess in the transfer business, as they are lining up moves that would revamp their attacking setup. One of the big needs is that of a new striker, as they have already missed out on the signing of Liam Delap as Chelsea found an agreement with Ipswich Town for the striker.

They had stayed interested in Viktor Gyokeres, but there are big challenges ahead in their quest to sign the striker. First of all, he has a huge price tag attached to it even though Sporting CP are ready to consider offers that are significantly lower than his reported £83 million release clause.

For Manchester United, the 26-year-old dream target would be an ideal addition as he knows Ruben Amorim’s system like no other striker. Yet, there are other factors, as Arsenal reportedly have a verbal agreement with Gyokeres over a move, with suggestions that he might prefer the Londoners over the Red Devils if the two clubs made bids.

Manchester United revamping the attacking setup

Whether or not they sign Gyokeres, a new striker is expected to arrive, as Manchester United are open to selling one of Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee in the summer. The former is already attracting big interest from Italy, with Inter Milan the latest to show interest. Manchester United view a new striker as imperative as they are aiming to pair him with new signing Matheus Cunha.

As for the revamp, Manchester United are in talks with Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as they are likely to field a different front three next season. In the Gyokeres chase, they could get a boost if Arsenal ends up signing Benjamin Sesko instead, and if the Red Devils can make some important sales of their unwanted stars to raise sizeable funds for a new striker such as the 26-year-old dream target.
