Al-Hilal in contact with Liverpool for Darwin Nunez

Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have contacted Liverpool as they look to sign their South American star Darwin Nunez.

According to Ben Jacobs, Al-Hilal are in contact with Liverpool as they look to sign Darwin Nunez ahead of next season. The Saudi Pro League club are on the lookout for their next marquee signing and are interested in the Uruguayan international, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

Nunez made a name for himself at Benfica. His impressive rise resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Liverpool broke the bank to beat the competition and sign him back in the summer of 2022.

While he has done a decent job for the Reds, the 25-year-old hasn’t lived up to the expectations. He was a regular feature in their XI under Jurgen Klopp but the arrival of Arne Slot has affected his game time.

The Dutch manager has not been impressed with his output in the final third; as a result, he was handed just over 2,000 minutes of first-team action last season. Slot is keen on signing a new striker ahead of next season and he is willing to sanction Nunez’s departure.

While Nunez’s contract with the Reds runs until the summer of 2028, he is ready to part ways with the club after being denied the chance to leave mid-season. There is a significant amount of interest in his services from quite a few top clubs in Europe as well as the Middle East.

Al-Hilal contact Edwards for Nunez

Al-Hilal are the ones who are keen on signing him. The Saudi Arabian club have been linked with quite a few top stars ahead of the summer’s transfer window. They are on the lookout for their next marquee signing and Nunez could be the one.

While the South American prefers staying in Europe, he could consider a move to the Middle East depending on the offer that he presented and the project at hand. Al-Hilal are already in contact with the Reds as they explore a potential move this summer.

The Saudi giants are in talks with Michael Edwards, who is FSG’s CEO of Football and is helping out Richard Hughes with Liverpool’s summer transfers. They have contacted the Merseyside club’s chief with hopes of striking a deal for Nunez.

While Al-Hilal have the finances to convince the Reds, it will be interesting to see if they can convince Nunez to leave Europe this early in his career.
