According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid are plotting a surprise raid on Liverpool for the signature of Andrew Robertson. Diego Simeone is keen on adding more quality on the left flank and considers the Scottish international an ideal fit for his team.
Robertson made a name for himself at Hull City before joining the Merseyside club back in 2017. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has played a massive part in all the success they have had.
While is 31 and is set to enter the final year of his deal at the club, he still remains a key figure in the team. He was involved in 45 matches last season and racked up more than 3,300 minutes of first-team action.
With only a year left on his contract, Atletico Madrid are looking to try and strike a deal for the Scottish international. The Madrid-based giants are on the lookout for a new left-back as Reinildo Mandava has left the club upon the expiry of his contract.
Javi Galan is the only out-and-out left-back option in Simeone’s squad and he is keen on bringing in a world-class full-back to ensure he has enough quality in that position. The Argentine manager has identified Andrew Robertson as a top target.
The Scottish full-back is admired by the people at the club and they are willing to make a move for him. While the Spanish giants are also looking at AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, Robertson is the higher than him on their shortlist.
Atletico are hoping that with a year left on his deal and Milos Kerkez set to join the club, Liverpool might sanction the departure of the 31-year-old. However, it won’t be easy to strike a deal with the Reds as they rate him very highly and want him around despite Kerkez’s potential arrival.
While Liverpool are looking at the Bournemouth full-back as the long-term successor of Robertson, Arne Slot is keen on having him around for a few more seasons to ensure a smooth transition. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Atletico can convince the Premier League giants to sell.
