According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, David Moyes is keen on signing a new striker this summer, and he has his eyes on VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade. The Toffees have done a lot of groundwork over the last few months as they look to sign the German international, who is also on the wishlist of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Not long ago, Woltemade was playing in the German third division with Werder Bremen. But his impressive rise and immense potential earned him a move to Stuttgart last summer. The 23-year-old took little time to adjust to the demands of the Bundesliga.
Woltemade was involved in a total of 33 matches across competitions, and he ended up contributing towards 20 goals (17 goals, 3 assists) in his debut campaign. His performances helped him break into the German national team as he featured in the recent UEFA Nations League fixtures against Portugal and France.
The player’s sensational rise has put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton are four Premier League clubs that want to sign the 23-year-old. They have scouted the German forward for a while now.
TBR chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently talked about Woltemade’s future, he said, “Woltemade was already well known to a host of clubs. I am told many clubs feel he has a ‘touch of Kai Havertz’ about him. Everton like him a lot and have done work on him for a number of months, but they are not alone.
“We can confirm that Stuttgart are making good progress with talks. It is possible that his form at the European U21 Championship complicates things, or at the very least might add some euros to his contract.”
The North London club are looking for a new striker as Mikel Arteta is not happy with the output of his current forwards. Woltemade could certainly help their cause and could actually take over from Havertz.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also interested in Nick Woltemade as they look for someone who can compete with Nicolas Jackson for a place in the starting XI. However, having already signed Liam Delap, a potential deal looks unlikely.
Arne Slot is also pushing for a new striker as he is not pleased with Darwin Nunez’s overall performances. While Woltemade could prove to be a valuable addition, they also have other top targets.
Apart from the three giants, Everton are also keen on Nick Woltemade’s signature and have been putting in the work to ensure they can win the race. David Moyes has made it a priority to sign a new striker amidst uncertainty around Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future.
Woltemade is quite high on their wishlist. While they are in talks with Villarreal’s Thierno Barry, the Toffees are also working to sign the 23-year-old German international. They have carried out a lot of groundwork in recent months to get a deal over the line.
However, Everton still won’t find it easy as VfB Stuttgart are working hard to secure his long-term future with a new deal. Talks have already started, and the Bundesliga outfit are confident about keeping hold of the Havertz-like striker.
