According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are considering parting ways with Andrew Robertson this summer. They seem to be open to the idea of cashing in on the Scottish international amidst interest from Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Robertson joined the Merseyside club back in 2017 from Hull City in a deal worth around £8 million. He became an integral part of their first team in no time and has played a big part in all the success they have had in the last eight years.
The 31-year-old was the preferred choice at left-back under Slot last season. He was involved in a total of 45 matches across competitions and even contributed towards two goals. Robertson started 29 out of the 38 league games as they went on to clinch the title.
While he is still considered an important member of the squad, Liverpool are contemplating cashing in on him. The Scottish full-back struggled for form in the final months of the season, and there’s a growing feeling within the club that age may be catching up with him.
With just a year remaining on his contract, the Reds were in talks with his camp over a new deal. However, they now seem to prefer selling him, if the right offer comes in, rather than offering a lucrative extension.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez will soon make the move to Anfield. He is expected to be their preferred choice at left-back next season, as a result, selling Robertson could certainly make sense. However, a lot will depend on the offer they receive for the veteran defender.
Atletico Madrid who are on the lookout for a new left-back are believed to be interested in the 31-year-old. If Diego Simeone’s team make a tempting offer, Liverpool could then be inclined to let him go. Meanwhile, with Kerkez coming in to be their first-choice left-back starting next season, Robertson could also look to leave Anfield this summer.
