According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Manchester United are very much considering Hugo Ekitike as a strong option for the striker role. The Red Devils have approached the French attacker’s agents although conversations with Eintracht Frankfurt are yet to begin, with Chelsea and Liverpool also considered in the running.
Hugo Ekitike could be one of the big topics of this transfer window, as there’s a huge demand for strikers in this market. Compared to how many clubs are looking for a new No.9, the options are far more limited, with the French attacker from Eintracht Frankfurt already being chased by several Premier League sides.
Liverpool are still optimistic about signing Ekitike with reports stating they have seemingly requested Frankfurt to wait until they can sell Darwin Nunez. The German side have placed a €100 million price tag on the striker, and so far they have stuck to their stance while showing no signs of being willing to reduce the rate.
Chelsea are another of Ekitike’s suitors, but they are not happy with the price tag for the €100m-rated striker. The Blues have already secured Liam Delap and could weigh in on a move for another striker, although the price point may prevent them from chasing Ekitike
Manchester United are the latest to enter the race, having ramped up their chase of the €100m-rated striker. The Red Devils have made contact with the player’s agents to understand further details of a deal and the Frenchman’s willingness to make the move. Club-to-club talks are yet to commence, which could potentially be the next step if Ekitike gives the green light to join the club.
The Ekitike chase will come as no surprise, as Manchester United have already targetted several striker names so far. They failed with a move for Delap, while their other top target, Viktor Gyokeres prefers a move to Arsenal. While some stories stated the Swede turned down Manchester United, it’s more along the lines of stating his preference for the Gunners rather than explicitly rejecting the Red Devils, meaning he’s still an option.
As for Ekitike, he could be a good addition to Ruben Amorim’s side who have already secured Matheus Cunha and chasing Bryan Mbeumo with intent. Any move for a new striker such as the €100m-rated Frenchman might also depend on sales of unwanted stars like Rasmus Hojlund, and yet, the price tag for Ekitike will represent a big challenge.
