Liverpool contract offer does not convince Luis Diaz

Liverpool’s contract renewal offer fails to convince Luis Diaz, who remains keen on joining Spanish giants Barcelona.

Luis Diaz’s future has been a massive talking point over the last few months. While he still has a couple of years left on his deal at the club, the Colombian is considering parting ways with the club amidst interest from Barcelona.

It is a dream move for the 28-year-old and he seems to be doing everything in his power to get it over the line. Meanwhile, Liverpool are reluctant to sell and are working hard to secure his long-term future. However, according to a report from Sport via SportWitness, the Merseyside club’s contract renewal offer fails to convince Luis Diaz.

The Colombian international made a name for himself at FC Porto before joining Liverpool at the start of 2022. Diaz has only gone from strength to strength over the years and he remains a key figure in their team under Arne Slot.

The 28-year-old winger featured in 50 matches last season, contributing towards 25 goals. While Slot is keen to keep him, with just two years remaining on his contract and Barcelona showing interest, his future remains uncertain.

Will Diaz move to Spain?

Barcelona are the ones who are leading the race for his signature. The Catalan giants want more depth and quality on the flanks and Diaz is a top target for them. However, they have massive financial constraints and are only willing to work out €60 million to sign the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Reds are unwilling to sell him for anything less than €80 million. With Barcelona setting a limit of €60 million, a transfer certainly won’t be that easy to pull off. The Spanish giants consider it to be a fair price for Diaz with just two years remaining on his contract.

The player currently earns €3.5 million per year at Anfield and Hansi Flick’s team are willing to offer him an improved salary. While Barcelona remains his first option, the Colombian international still has a renewal offer on the table from the Merseyside club.

The Reds are prepared to offer him a new deal with improved terms, but their proposal has so far failed to convince the 28-year-old. While Liverpool will continue efforts to secure his long-term future, they may be forced to consider a sale if no agreement is reached.
