According to a report by French outlet Foot Sur 7, Wilson Samake is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window as they prepare to reinforce their first-team squad to sustain the challenge of remaining in the Premier League beyond the 2024/25 season.
So, the Stade Rennais centre-forward has emerged as a target for the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners. However, Leeds United will face stiff competition from fellow Premier League club AFC Bournemouth to sign the French-born striker from the Ligue 1 club in the summer transfer window.
Wilson Samake has established himself as one of the most promising young strikers in France in the last few years. A native of Vitry-sur-Seine, the 21-year-old spent his formative years in France but has chosen Mali as his national side at the under-23 level. However, the highly-rated attacker has yet to break into the first-team squad at Stade Rennais.
The Malian youth international spent most of his formative years with AS Orly but graduated from the youth division at Stade Rennais. However, the Ligue 1 outfit may not have Samake at the club for much longer, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Leeds United’s interest in Wilson Samake is understandable. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing multiple strikers in the summer transfer window amid the faltering performances of Patrick Bamford. So, several candidates, including Evann Guessand, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar.
Meanwhile, the Whites have failed with a bid to sign Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham. So, several options are on Leeds United’s wishlist, and Samake is also a viable target. However, the West Yorkshire outfit will face stiff competition from Bournemouth for the French-born striker’s signature.
Considering Bournemouth finished in the top half of the Premier League table, they might have an advantage in the battle for Samake’s signature. So, it will be interesting to see where the Mali youth international lands if he leaves Stade Rennais in the summer transfer window.
