Manchester United want €45 million to sell Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are reportedly seeking €45 million to sell Rasmus Hojlund this summer

Manchester United have made their stance clear regarding the future of Rasmus Hojlund: the Danish forward will not be leaving Old Trafford on the cheap. As reported by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, the Red Devils have slapped a €45 million price tag on the 21-year-old and are insistent on a permanent transfer, rejecting Inter Milan’s attempts to secure a loan-to-buy deal.

Inter’s interest in Hojlund comes as the Serie A champions look to revamp their attacking options. With Parma refusing to budge on their valuation of rising star Ange-Yoan Bonny, Inter have kept their attention on alternative targets, with Hojlund remaining high on their list.

Despite this, Manchester United are unmoved by loan proposals, particularly those which include vague purchase obligations. They are demanding guaranteed funds upfront, making it clear that if Hojlund is to leave, it must be through a straightforward permanent transfer.

The Danish international only arrived at Old Trafford two years ago in a high-profile move from Atalanta and has endured an inconsistent couple of campaigns under the pressure of leading the line for one of England’s biggest clubs. While his moments of brilliance were evident, including standout performances from time to time, the club is yet to decide whether to persist with him as a long-term centrepiece or cash in for a significant fee.

Time to pull the plug?

With Manchester United’s summer rebuild already underway, funds from player sales could be crucial. They are walking a financial tightrope to stay within Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and Hojlund represents one of the few young assets with significant resale value. Still, Manchester United’s stance suggests they will only sanction a sale if their valuation is met.

As it stands, Inter Milan are struggling to match those demands. The Serie A giants, now managed by Cristian Chivu, are facing their own financial limitations and would prefer a staggered payment model or conditional obligations, neither of which appeals to Manchester United’s board.

Ball is in Inter Milan’s court

For now, Rasmus Hojlund remains a Manchester United player, and unless Inter or another club meets the €45 million asking price, he will likely begin the 2025/26 season in red. Whether that means another year of development at Old Trafford or a surprise big-money exit remains to be seen.

Selling Hojlund for such a loss would raise eyebrows, especially considering the time and money invested in bringing him to Manchester. While the fee could help finance other deals, Manchester United must weigh the long-term potential of the Dane carefully. It may be wise to give him another year under a more stable managerial setup before making any hasty decisions.
