According to The Mirror, Arsenal are considering a move for Christian Norgaard as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey. The Brentford Skipper could be a high-quality alternative to the Ghanaian, with his experience in the Premier League with Brentford key to the north Londoners’ interest.
Arsenal are siding with patience when it comes to conducting their transfer business, despite the fans demanding a quick resolution to their activity in the market. The Gunners are prioritising bringing in key attacking reinforcements as a new striker and a winger are expected to arrive in the window.
Meanwhile, Martin Zubimendi has reportedly completed his move and Arsenal have signed all relevant paperwork with Real Sociedad. The Spaniard might not be the only midfield arrival this summer, as talks with Thomas Partey have reportedly collapsed. A decision on the Ghanaian midfielder’s future is yet to be made, but as of now, he could leave on a free transfer.
Hence, Arsenal are expected to bring in a replacement, as Brentford’s Christian Norgaard is the latest name being mentioned in reports. The 31-year-old Premier League veteran has been immense for the Bees since joining them in 2019 and is one of the reasons why the London outfit have established themselves as a mid-table top-flight side.
Tottenham were also linked with a move for Norgaard, although the deal with Spurs will plunge into complexities following Thomas Frank’s move there. As for Arsenal, they could view an opportunity for the 31-year-old Premier League veteran, as they might be able to persuade Brentford to let their skipper leave for a reasonable fee despite having two years left on his deal.
If Mikel Arteta seeks an experienced midfielder, then Norgaard will fit the bill as Partey’s replacement. While he may not be close to the Ghanaian midfielder in terms of quality, he packs a good amount of experience in the English top flight. Arsenal have considered younger options such as Ayyoub Bouaddi from LOSC Lille, which might also be a way forward for the manager to consider.
Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume is a reported target too, which does indicate that Arteta might be leaning towards a younger option suitable for the long-term future. Declan Rice and Zubimendi bring about a good balance of youth and experience. Hence, the idea of bringing Norgaard may also work out for the Gunners albeit in the short term.
