According to Jorge Nicola, Sao Paulo’s Lucas Ferreira is attracting massive interest from this side of the Atlantic. Everton are one of the main contenders for the winger’s signature, although they might face a challenge in convincing the Brazilian outfit to part ways with the breakthrough star.
Lucas Ferreira made 22 appearances for Sao Paulo since breaking into the first-team plans earlier this year. The winger might only have a single goal and assist to his name across all competitions during that period, but that has not deterred his club from reducing his value in any way.
Sao Paulo firmly believes the 19-year-old South American prodigy can achieve great things in the near future and increase his value in the process. Hence, the Brazilian side are somewhat reluctant to part ways with the winger just yet despite growing interest from this side of the Atlantic.
Russian side Krasnodar made an €8 million offer a month and a half ago, which was swiftly rejected by Sao Paulo. There’s further interest from English side Wolves and Everton, with the duo considered as the clubs with a concrete intention of signing the 19-year-old South American prodigy.
Sticking with Everton, they are probably trying to lure a player who can be a big star in the future. Given how Ferreira is only at the beginning of his time with Sao Paulo, they might sense an opportunity to take the winger on a reasonable fee compared to some other young Brazilian stars who have gone on to move for larger sums.
Everton’s primary focus is to bring in a new right winger, with a host of players being linked with a move, as Ferreira becomes the latest of the lot. There are links to West Brom’s Tom Fellows as well as Liverpool’s Ben Doak from within England, while they are also tracking other stars from elsewhere.
The most recent report on their right winger search linked Everton to Timothy Weah, with Juventus likely to demand a premium fee for the USMNT star. While Ferreira might not be seen in the same vein as some of these players, particularly Weah, he’s certainly a rising star for the future of the club, as all eyes will be on the Toffees and whether they end up making an offer to convince Sao Paulo.
