According to La Nueva Espana, Argentine defender Kevin Lomonaco is a player of interest to the likes of West Ham United and Barcelona. The Independiente centre-back who was recently called up by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni could make the switch to a European club to further his career.
Kevin Lomonaco has made a big impact with Independiente, which resulted in Argentina’s manager Lionel Scaloni calling him up for the most recent round of internationals. The defender was an unused substitute in the win over Chile, while he was kept out of the squad for the draw with Colombia.
Whether he has more brushes with the national side will be determined by his performances going forward. Hence, the player might be thinking about the growing interest in his signature from European clubs including West Ham United, but Barcelona are also keen.
The Catalans are keen as there are some changes expected to their backline, that may involve some cost-cutting. For instance, Barcelona might look to sell Ronald Araujo for a big figure and replace him with a rather cost-effective option, such as Lomonaco.
The 23-year-old South American defender may not be a first-choice starter, although there’s a huige chance to represent a big European side and grow in the system under Hansi Flick. Fellow Spanish side Real Oviedo are also heavily interested, which does give Lomonaco the chance to evaluate his options before deciding on leaving Independiente.
Should a Spanish switch not materialise for Lomonaco, there’s the option of West Ham United. Together with Crystal Palace, the Hammers were keen sometime around April, as they still have a big interest in exploring a deal for the 23-year-old South American defender.
Compared to the Spanish sides, the Hammers may have better financial flexibility to agree on the right terms with Independiente as well as Lomonaco ahead of a potential move. Moreover, the 23-year-old South American defender could have the right competition in place at the London side, which could potentially result in him becoming a first-choice defender in no time.
